How do I know if telehealth is right for me?
The decision to start counseling is a big step for many people and, in general, you may have various concerns about what to expect. Telehealth allows you to engage with the therapist from familiar surroundings, which can provide some comfort, particularly as you start your therapy journey. My experience is that most people are pleasantly surprised with how meaningful therapy can be through telehealth! In fact, people of all ages are able to get the help they need through videochat or telephone.
I’ve decided to try telehealth, what’s next?
If you decide you would like to schedule an appointment, you may contact Dr. Christenson by email from the Appointment Request link on this website or through the Contact link. She will arrange to speak with you by phone for about 15 minutes to get some basic information and to set you up in the portal.
What is a client portal and how do I access it?
I use a client portal which is a secure website that allows you to access specific information related to your health care. As with anything new, using the portal can be tricky at first. Once you learn how to log in using your 10-digit password, you will find the site is very user friendly. You can access the online calendar to make or cancel an appointment, to view your billing statement, or to sign documents. Please note, passwords must be changed every 120 days.
Creating a user account starts by following the link from the welcome email to the secure portal where you will create a password. Please be sure to record your user name and password as they will be required each time you enter the site. Next, you may request an appointment through the portal calendar and an email will be sent to confirm your request. To reduce the chance that reminder emails will go into spam folders, please add [email protected] to your address book.
Where can I access intake forms before my first session?
The forms you need to complete will be available to you on the HIPAA secure portal. You will receive an email from TherapyPortal.com that will allow you to connect with the portal directly. You will need to use a laptop or desktop computer to download the forms, complete them, and then upload them.
What to expect for the first session?
You should log onto the portal a few minutes before the start of your session to make sure your equipment is working properly. Dr. Christenson will meet you on the platform at the scheduled time. Please make sure you are in Pennsylvania at the time of the session. You will need to find a secure and private space for meeting where there will not be interruptions. Enjoy therapy from the comfort of your home or office.
What to do if I am having issues with my technology?
Relax and take a breath, most problems can be solved by logging out and coming back in. Also, don’t forget to enter your password each and every time, as this will be required to complete most tasks on the portal. Please contact Dr. Christenson directly if you are not able to get onto the portal. You’ve got this!
Alternative methods of contact
At times technology goes haywire and we need to switch to another secure method of connection. Dr. Christenson may offer you an alternate platform that also provides a HIPAA secure telehealth connection. If all else fails we have access to a secure phone application.
